Internet. The very thing you eat, sleep, drink and dream these days. Okay, that’s Cool. We understand and appreciate all the advantages it offers. But what’s not so cool is how getting over-addicted to the internet can ruin your physical and mental health and productivity. Don’t believe us? Then read on.

Recall your childhood days. Wasn’t it an integral part to play in the field every afternoon? All you had was a punctured football or one rubber ball. But that wouldn’t be an obstacle to your happiness. Now, look at your younger brother or sister. Find them hooked up to the PC the entire day? That’s exactly the problem is. Over-addiction to the internet often makes children much unsocial; letting them live in a virtual world. This could lead to lack of concentration, Insomnia, severe decrease in the brain’s productivity in creative terms and decline in relationship with family and friends.
Researches show that this often happens when the children are deprived of parental care. In nuclear families where both the parents work and therefore can’t make it possible to spend much time with their child, the child finds its relief over the internet and it becomes his virtual friend. We fear we can’t give you an easy solution to this, except telling you that you should spend some quality time, even if it’s little, with your child.

If you’re too much into internet and keep chatting almost always, then this habit of yours might cause damage to your face to face communication skill. When you communicate with someone virtually, you don’t need an eye contact. You need no body language. You need no voice modulations and you don’t need to keep your concentration only on the sole person you’re talking to. And you do this for hours and hours. This becomes a habit. Result? When it’s time for you to get into some serious face to face conversation, you run short of the right word. You are likely to find it uncomfortable to keep eye contact with someone for long. This doesn’t end here. Researchers say that the tendency of misinterpreting their identities or using fake personal information is rapidly growing among active internet users; which usually comes from a severe inferiority complex when one isn’t happy with his/her physical appearance and/or academic achievements.

Bad eyesight. This is bound to happen if you’re spending too much time in front of your PC or over a laptop / tab/mobile. Apart from that, it is going to cause poor posture and carpal tunnel syndrome. It as well leads to pain in spine, back, hip. Not only that. Research shows that people who use the internet for a longer duration are less likely to concentrate on work than people who use the internet for a short period in a day.

You won’t like this one, but it’s true. The internet has opened a virtual global library for us. One mouse click would pour gallons of information in front of you. While this is a sheer bliss for the students and researchers, over the last few years, the tendency of stealing creative ideas has alarmingly increased. From films to novels, from research works to online articles, copying has become almost a practice. While access to more information is supposed to increase one’s quality of work, it leads to indecent acts of copying instead.
P.S: We hate to scare you. Just a few little warnings. Happy surfing! 🙂
