AAP’s victory may have come as a huge surprise to the entire nation, but for Delhiites it was always on the cards. Almost a year ago AAP was labeled as a bhagoda party who were incapable of doing anything, at least this is what the media showed.
The enormous victory of AAP clearly shows that the people of Delhi never hated AAP, they were just a bit disappointed. Thought the government collapsed within 49 days, but it did enough to leave an impact in the minds of the people.
Right from his oath to the day he resigned, Arvind Kejriwal’s desperation was always evident. His desperation to make to Delhi a better place. Whether the things which he did were right or wrong is a different story but his intent always looked good. And that is what people want.
People don’t want their leaders to take perfect decisions every time, instead what they are looking for is someone who has the guts to take on the challenge. AAP showed in those 49 days that they were not ready to keep quiet, they wanted to make noise, a noise which cannot be ignored. The methods which they used may not have been great, Kejriwal’s dharnas and speeches may have failed to please the people but there was a spark which everyone saw during his governance, something which we very rarely see in our democratic country.
For some reason AAP constantly stood in the line of fire of the media and they portrayed a picture of AAP being a villain in our political system. As if we have too many heroes in Indian politics. The ugly lashing by the media made AAP’s supporters look for shelter as they were looked upon as fakes and frauds by the whole nation. Now they can come out proudly with their heads held high as AAP has done it once again.
This doesn’t apply to the citizens of Delhi, they never bothered about all this. AAP didn’t do anything miraculous over the last one year which could have probably changed the mindset of the people, it was all what they did and didn’t in those 49 days that has made this victory possible for them.
It’s not every day you see a party getting 67 seats out of 70 in state elections, it takes something special to achieve this. The venomous image of Kejriwal didn’t stop the people to believe in the talent and dedication of this man. Before the elections, Kiran Bedi said that she will go back to what she was doing if she doesn’t win, whereas Kejriwal said that he will fight until Delhi becomes corruption free irrespective of election results. This is the type of commitment which people were looking for.
The success of AAP clearly shows that Delhi never allowed media to dictate terms, they did what they felt was right for them. And this is what our country needs, logical reasoning to differentiate between right and wrong and not just media perspectives.
