Last week, Delhi came to a halt for 21 minutes to save a 16 year old. Hope is still a very big thing.

On the afternoon of Saturday, a 16 year old with a failing heart was waiting for a miracle. A miracle that would bring a live heart from across 30 KM in Gurgaon to him before his heart stopped completely. And the miracle happened, that too in just under 21 minutes.

The police of both the states came together to transport a live heart from Gurgaon to Delhi by creating a “Green Corridor”. This ensured that the ambulance got green light everywhere and it could travel unhindered to its destination. A police bike also accompanied the ambulance. The heart was transported from Fortis Hospital in Gurgaon to Delhi’s Escorts Hsopital.

The whole traffic was brought to a halt for carrying the heart as soon as possible. The heart was donated by a 30 year donor who was declared brain dead. He was an IT professional and once he was declared brain dead, his family expressed their desire to donate his organs. After which the Fortis Hospital in Gurgaon made a request via email to the Police Commissioner for a “Green Corrdior”.

In general, under normal circumstances, one would need one hour and 30 minutes to travel that distance but due to the cooperation from the police of both the states, this time was slashed down to 21 minutes and the life of a 16 year old was saved.

This was indeed a very heartwarming gesture by the police of both the states to join their hands for saving the life of a 16 year old. No matter how much we do talk about corruption in our Police system, or the abuse of power that some officers often make, but a few incidents like these certainly instill a hope in us that our Police officers are still there for us in moments of need.
