What I Say And What I Do – The Way I Fool Society (And Myself) With My Double Standard Values

Note: The following article is a Satire. The more you get angry while reading, the more responsible youngster you are. And my story goes like this….

I am among almost 50% percent of total and 80% of the Indian youth population, a tremendously responsible citizen and can’t accept even a bit of fundamental rights violation, but I don’t know whether there exists any fundamental duties also in our constitution.

Oh! Leave it, even if it exists, just protecting rights will give me the title of a responsible citizen so why to care about those useless fundamental duties.

I was among the Hindu who demolished Babri Masjid or genocide at Godhra, I am the Muslim who kicked out Kashmiri Pandits from their own land and I am the Sikh who highly condemned the Blue-Star operation, on the name of my fundamental rights to protect, practice, profess and propagate my religion. I give utmost importance to this right of mine, ignoring the essence of the constitution and fundamental duties i.e. secularism and spreading common belongingness.

I am the youth, who was behind Anna Hazare during his movement for Janlokpal Bill. I believe the scammed money is the taxpayer’s money. Responsible youth like me can never accept even a bit of corruption. Hence, it’s our right to know the account of each and every penny; we can’t let our money be exploited. I am a responsible youth who does not support scams like 2G, Adarsh, CWG etc., but I can support little bit bribe.

For example, to move my file faster at secretariat I give a little bit of bribe to clerk and I don’t care about the poor who come every day, but their works are pending, since they don’t have money like me to give bribe. At most the corruption I can support is the corruption done by a few contractors. I mean, they took up the job for earning only. But a responsible youth like me don’t have that much of a broad mind to think that roads or bridges built by those contractors may take the life of several citizens. Who will think that much! I protested with Anna, that is more than enough to gain the title of responsible youth of India.

I am a responsible youth, who mobilizes; protests and does candle marches when Nirbhaya case, Manorama case or any other case of women harassment and rape takes place. I even post a lot of stuff on the social network to work like a pressure group on government. I advocate a lot for the stringent laws to protect and empower women.

But I am unaware that I may be the victim of those laws. It’s because I am among the youth whose voice and mental state at the time of the protest, and later, is totally different.

On one side, I do candle-marches and on the other I like to sit with a few of my friends and tease the girls who pass by. And if found alone, I even like to do a bit of mischief. I, and many youngsters like me feel these things give me the title of a stud.

Recently freedom of expression has become my favorite topic and even the Supreme Court has supported me with the scrapping of article 66 of IT Act, giving me full freedom of expression through social media. But many a times, I will utilize it in a different manner because I don’t care about my damn duties. I will utilize social media to spread the rumors of North-Eastern people being tortured by Southern and enjoy a new dimension of social media. I don’t care about the shit told in fundamental duties, to spread common brotherhood transcending religious, linguistic and regional diversity, but I only care about my full freedom of speech and expression.

I am the youth, and I like to visit various tourist and heritage places of the nation. At some times, when tourists are not allowed to visit those places I feel offended. I feel like my right to freedom of movement has been repealed. But when I visit those treasured spots of India, I think I am the last one to visit. I don’t care about damn duties of protecting the rich heritage of the nation. I spit on the walls, take photos of prohibited areas, misbehave with other female tourists, do mischief with old age people, and feel I am a youngster and it’s the part of youth’s entertainment. I give a damn about the line “Protect heritage and promote tourism”, written in fundamental duties.

I am the unemployed and diverted the youth of Kashmir whose only soul motto is Azadi. I feel myself torturous by Army and Indian government. I think myself as a grass, which is squeezed because of a fight between two elephants, Pakistan & India. Moreover, the right to protest is my fundamental right and I want to protest every day of my life. But my way of protesting is different and far away from Gandhian non-violence. My protest starts with stone pelting on police and army and goes on to even militantly killing as many police and army as possible. In this case I follow both my fundamental right to protest and my fundamental duty to cherish and follow noble ideas of freedom fighters. But I choose people like Syed Geelani, Mirwaiz Farooq, and Masrat Alam etc. instead of Gandhi, Bose or Patel.

The 42nd amendment of the constitution in 1976, added fundamental duties in Indian constitution among which one point seemed totally funny and hilarious to me. That point was to defend the nation and render service when called upon to do so. Oh my God! I think they did not know that instead of rendering service, I take advantage of those situations. I took advantage during the 2008 flood of Bihar by snatching jewelries and costly equipment in the name of help through my boats. Not only this, I don’t consider soldiers dying at boarders as a martyr; their duty is to serve and die, and for that only they are getting money. Moreover, I don’t care of even passing a blind or old age person across the roads and they framed the law to render the service to the nation. Huh, rendering services to nation are beyond my understanding!!

I sit with a few of like-minded friends and discuss a lot about the intense issues of the nation and corruption being the most loved and common topics. I put up a lot of stats, facts and events to show the extreme level of corruption in India. I even suggest various steps that can be used to eradicate, and I think myself as a responsible and sensible citizen. But I haven’t heard the proverb “Talkers are no good doers; be assured we come to use our hands not our tongues” I never mind violating many of the laws. Sometimes, I even think violating laws like speeding up bike, teasing poor people and girls, involving in smoking, misbehaving with girls make me stud. And I am a kind of guy who believes in being a stud rather than following the laws and great talks and discussions done earlier by me.

I am a responsible young citizen of India who can’t ignore his Fundamental Rights but don’t care about Fundamental Duties. I am the flag bearer of India with a confused state of mind. I am a youngster, and Fundamental duties don’t exist for me.
