The Drama Queen – An inbuilt character of every Indian

So recently when the AIB roast incident took place, everyone took the matter in hands and started reacting in their own terms. The actors, public, politicians as well social media tormented in the name of democracy. It was like everyone had done a doctorate in teaching democracy from Harvard.

Everyone wants a change. All of us want a change in the system. They want a transparency in everything. It’s a good sign of walking towards the beacon of modernization and development. But before any revolutionary change, there are two aspects: evolution and mutation. Our system has shown evolution rather than mutation. Hence, we can’t see a change despite working so hard, walking day and night towards the beacon. I guess, our leaders have caught the central nervous system of this revolution. They have discovered it well in advance that we are just a bunch of excited electrons which jumps from one orbit to another till it passes out its energy.

Back in 2008, when a devastating terror attack took place, we were in full vigor to splay out even the slightest possibility of terrorism in India. People wanted Ajmal Kasab to be hanged immediately. We criticized our government for giving him a glass of water to drink. But eventually as time passed by, public forgot the matter and the topic of Kasab just vanished into thin air leaving certain traces across the country which would lift up in time and again.

For the last 3 years, the majority of our news channels and social media revolves around RAPE. 16 DEC 2012 imprinted itself on many hearts and souls, leaving a deep scar of anger, fear and hatred. I salute the spirit of great Nirbhaya and her friend. I also salute the people who truly wanted to support her. But the impact which should have happened just did not. It was like a great tsunami wave that came and left slightly destroying some parts of the shore. A few changes and certain new rules, and then the game was over. The players were back to the pavilion. Neither the people who were to see the match dared to ask the players: Is it really over? Have you won the match?

Till date we see cases of rapes. A group of activists lurking around the city, common men commenting over the condition of the country ‘is Desh ka kuch nahi ho sakta’, a bunch of youth shouting ‘hame kya karna hai in sab se? degree khatm Karo or baahar chalo. India mein kuch nahi rakha hai’.

Aren’t we all behaving like drama queens? A bit of perspiration and we all behave as if we all have been hit by a cosmic wave. If we all shout that it’s time to change, then change instead of postponing. We don’t postpone our shopping, our dates, our exams, our office hours. Then why postpone this? Why should the matter, just disappear into thin air?

Our scenario I guess must be pre-set in the minds of our administration and its dignitaries. They all know the story. An incident happens- the people react – certain changes for a few days- time passes- the incident is flushed out by the majority of public- back to the previous state.

It’s like we are being treated like a 5 year old kid who on seeing a chocolate stops crying. A girlfriend on seeing a bunch of flowers forgives her boyfriend. A friend about having a tequila shot forgets his dispute and walks again, saying ‘’Bhai hai apna yaar.”

My purpose is not to teach anyone anything as unlike those doctorates, I am lucky for not having an opportunity to attain this degree. All I want is to frame the current scenario and tell those professors that they need to hold on till the results and experiments are done and not just till literature review and postulating some theory. We don’t need to light up a candle and walk towards India Gate every time to show our revolution. Rather walk towards the reality. Next time we see a person commenting a girl or yourself, a teen facing sexual harassment, a senior citizen facing issues at a government office, stand together. Wait till the work is done. We need to stop assuming that postulating some new new rules is enough for the invention to take place. We need to wait till the implementation is done. We need to wait till we have proved our own theory. The day we decide to do so, we can make our nation into a true Ram Rajya which it once used to be.
