Radio is the easiest available mean of communication today, available in the most rural and unconnected regions as well. Narendra Modi chose radio over most means, to reach out to every nook and corner in the country.
Mann Ki Baat started with the aim of reaching the masses throughout the country. A survey conducted in six cities showed that 66.7% of the population tune into radio to listen to the Prime Minister and find it useful. Mr. Modi uses radio to connect to common man and inform them on regular basis about the government’s initiatives asking for suggestions, and support.
The latest episode was aired on the 27th of this month. He started by wishing the nation Easter. Then he talked about the upcoming under-17 FIFA world cup being held in the country. He also congratulated the Indian cricket team for two victories in T20 series.
He also emphasised on tourism, and cleanliness at tourist spots. He also paid a tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, talking about his life. He addressed farmers, saying that this is a crucial time for farmers and the need of the hour is to conserve water.
Mann Ki Baat has aired 18 episodes till now, and has been a huge success. In every episode, the PM ignites a spark in the people of this country to work towards a better India. The very first episode was focussed on making every Indian realise its true potential, as he said “If everyone takes a step forward, India will take 125 crore steps.”
In about one and a half year, he has touched almost every topic that plagues the nation.
Use of Khadi, the trademark of our nation was encouraged. He announced that specially-abled children will receive special scholarships and infrastructures will be built in educational institutions. He promoted the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to incite the cleanliness spirit among the people of India.
He took the ‘Selfie with Daughter’ campaign to a greater level. The campaign was initiated in the village of Bibipur, Hayana, but PM’s Mann Ki Baat took it on the national stage to discourage sex selection as a part of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.
Modi appealed to the youth to stop drug abuse, and started a helpline to help drug addicts and their families. Youth are the India of tomorrow, and they lying in shadow of drug abuse, means the nation lying in darkness.
He also co hosted the show with American President Barack Obama discussing various issues. One rank one pension was discussed. He informed ex-army personnel that the government is committed to the OROP scheme and requested for some more time. He also informed the farmers that the land acquisition bill is not pro corporate and urged them not to fall for misinformation.
This gesture is connecting India to its Prime Minister. The website www.mygov.in receives suggestions from citizens which are later discussed in the radio show along with its subsequent solutions.
A great democracy is the one in which each individual is heard and responded to, and where there is transparency in the system. Mann Ki Baat has taken care of this by being a small yet influential step towards covering the loopholes that had weakened our system over the years.
During his radio communications, he tends to the needs of every sector of society, covering every untouched issue faced by the nation. He talks about farmers, their sensitive needs, the army, the children, education, cleanliness, tourism, girl child. Name one, and here it is.
The need of the hour for our nation is this man’s approach. The Indian population is only being benefitted each month by knowing what work has been accomplished, and what is yet to be done, and by making the law makers hear their cry. The long run consequences of this programme seem to be positive. After listening to every episode, India emerges out to be more informed that before, more satisfied that before, and overall, stronger that before.
