To all my dear readers, I would first like to introduce myself to you. I am a fun loving girl who just wants to be independent. So, with my parent’s supportive nature, I moved out of my hometown Kolkata and came to South India for pursuing my B.E. degree.
I had never thought that I would come to learn so easily about what is actually happening to every one of us, who no longer are in parent’s shelter. And yes, how difficult and how pathetic the condition we are in, especially girls. Why is it our mentality that a girl cannot be safe anywhere, whereas a boy can go everywhere?
Let me share with you a few incidents that will make you understand that why I feel rape can never be stopped in India, even though people with banners and posters are standing out in the hot scorching heat and screaming at the top of their voice to save a girl’s pride.
Let us practically take some incidents into consideration.
Mostly, all of us have travelled in heavy crowded busses, so let me ask you a question. Have you ever travelled comfortably without any disturbances? No, I am not actually talking about pickpockets, neither a fight for a seat with the lady standing beside you. I am talking about the aged man who stands behind you and rubs his penis to your back or rather grabs your waist in the name of holding the bus rod, or let me be more specific, just lean totally on you and feel you up. Did you protest against what he did? He might have a daughter who could be of your age or a little younger.
This was about our well educated people from mediocre families who return from their daily work with an office bag and release all their frustration in the bus by doing all this.
Now let’s move on to the people who are meant to serve us or rather meant to help us reach our home safely, the auto drivers. Most of the girls who have travelled in an auto have faced this. If you have occupied the front seat beside the auto driver, the tendency of him feeling your boobs with his elbow or glaring towards them or taking a hot busty girl beside him and almost making her sit on his lap, is very strong. The girl becomes helpless and fails to say anything. And the driver enjoys it and later shares it with other auto drivers.
Next on chart are our our youth stars. Though they are learning in school and colleges to respect woman, but hardly do they carry out their duties when they are actually out of those four walls. If a girl passes by a gang of boys, I have seen them glaring at her boobs and her back and then they start discussing among themselves about her size, or else pass a nasty comment as if she is dressed a little awkwardly. Why can’t you guys just leave her on her way and let her go to her destination safely?
One day, my friend and I were returning from school on a public bus. My friend occupied a seat next to an uncle as the window seat was vacant. She started calling me but I denied to her call as I had already gotten a seat. Later she told me that the man played some porn video in his cell and he slanted his mobile screen towards her and was rubbing his penis. She couldn’t sit there anymore, so she came from that place leaving the window seat vacant as it was left before. A girl’s innocence was just killed by a man’s frustration.
The frustration that has been built up inside everyone can never be rubbed or cannot be decreased. When it’s out of control and whan a girl is found alone, Rape happens. When a girl is in a crowded area, she is harrased and then she reaches the place where innocence can be killed by a frustrated mind. Rape happens, and yes later the girl is the one who is blamed for her presence in that place, the man is not questioned as to why he couldn’t controll himself or his frustrated mind.
So my dear friends, the more you shout, the more you make posters, the more you plead to punish the rapist, its all pointless. The first step that should be taken is to bring the frustration regarding the sexual issues under control. Until and unless the frustration of people are brought under control, rape can never be stopped in India.
