BJP clean bold, Congress out for a duck and Kejriwal scores a century, but match is not over yet.

Who said only Narendra Modi can inflict a one sided victory for his party? Kejriwal can do it too, and he did it in style. The Namo fever has finally gone down after sweeping the general elections last May and then also going on to win almost every other state election. Arvind Kejriwal is the now the man of the hour.

It’s not Kejriwal’s win which is coming as a surprise here, it’s the margin by which he has won is what is leaving people shell shocked. Aam Aadmi Party has managed to put its hands on 66 seats out of 70, BJP managed 3 and  the 1 seat left, went to others. The biggest disappointment turned out to be Congress, which didn’t even manage to win a single seat. Delhi is on a high after AAP victory, even the opposition is not hesitating to congratulate the party for its stupendous win.

Kiran Bedi tweeted, “Full marks to Arvind. Congratulations. Now take Delhi to the heights it belongs to. Make it a world class city..” Our Prime Minister also extended his support on twitter, saying, “Spoke to @ArvindKejriwal & congratulated him on the win. Assured him Centre’s complete support in the development of Delhi.”

The victory turned out to be so much one sided that the Assembly is more likely to have no opposition at all. This may have given Kejriwal immense happiness, but I am sure it must be scary as well and Kejriwal confessed that, he said, “This win scares me.”, to the press after getting a fair indication of the results. The support which Delhiites have shown in Kejriwal clearly gives an indication of how much faith they have in this man. Arvind Kejriwal will be under great pressure to deliver time and again, courtesy the huge promises which he made of making Delhi a crime free city and put a full stop on corruption forever.

Almost a year ago it looked as if AAP has been completely wiped off the political map itself, and now their comeback looks no short of a dramatic Bollywood movie. But as they say ‘picture abhi baki hai mere dost’, its too early to say anything. AAP has only taken the first step of what they are looking to achieve and what people are looking to get from AAP. There is still a very long way to go.

Let’s put all that in the back seat for this moment, and concentrate on the election results. Almost every part of the result has come as a shock to the pundits. Though a Kejriwal win was likely, no one could have even guessed this margin in their dreams. BJP’s prime candidate, Kiran Bedi, was also seen struggling for votes as she was trailing to AAP’s SK Bagga, contesting from Krishna Nagar constituency. Congress’s result was even more disappointing, they couldn’t even open their account.

The exit polls showed that AAP would range between 31 and 54 seats, while BJP was expected to get something between 17 and 35 seats. The old rulers of Delhi, Congress didn’t have much to cheer about here as well, as they were likely to get 3 or 4 seats, but at least that was better than a zero.

The elections are over now, results have been declared, and now it’s time for Delhi to see some real action. AAP which left after 49 days last time is now in for another go. Let’s see what Kejriwal and him men have in store for Delhi.
