When the capital itself starts losing secularism, how can people hold on to their faith?

Geographical capital of the country is the best place, a country can offer to its citizen to live.

Not only this, status of country’s capital is a kind of country’s report card in front of world to estimate its value. DELHI is the capital of one of the biggest democratic country in the world INDIA. Not only India is the biggest democracy, it can also be counted among the most secular countries in the world.

No doubt Delhi is the great city which has made us proud on various occasions since December 1911 when it was declared as capital of India but with passage of time we have witnessed various incidents which were not at all acceptable from humanity point of view. Recent vandalisation of churches in New Delhi is one of those few instances which not only bring disgrace to India but is also a blow to humanity.

India always boasts itself as the country which values every religion and is free for everyone to follow any religion in the country but unfortunately incidents like anti-sikhrevolt , anti-muslim revolts and many other in its very own and prestigious capital Delhi marks a serious question on the face of Indian secularism.

Recently we witnessed  deliberate vandalisation of churches in Delhi, according to record 5 churches have been targeted in Delhi in last 9 weeks so far which includes :-

  1. St Sebastian church in Dilshad garden in the east of Delhi which was set to fire in the morning. Though no casualties were reported as there was no one present inside the church but then also act was shameful and not at all tolerable.
  2. Syro Malabar catholic church at jasola in okhla was attacked by stones when Saturday mass was being celebrated, the first floor windows were shattered and mob has the rush out with alarm. Though nobody got severely injured but many of them are still in shock and struggling to come out of fear they faced.
  3. A Christmas crib kept at Rohini church was burnt to ashes as somebody threw inflammable liquid which led to fire. Crib is a manifestation of Jesus as a poor child born in stable. Though no casualties were reported but burning of crib no doubt disturbed the communal harmony.
  4. Two unidentified men vandalized the Catholic Church in Vikaspuri creating outrage among the Christian community. This shameful act was accomplished in morning around 4 am, though police have CCTV footage they are still unable to catch the culprits a serious blow to Indian police.
  5. And recently just before two days of legislative election St Alphona’s church in vasantkunj was vandalized .

These are the five churches destroyed in last 9 weeks so far and still not an single culprit have been caught which is no doubt  a question on India’s face as this is happening nowhere else than capital Delhi.

Recently Barack Obama on his visit to India underscored the point that countries divided within along religious lines cannot progress, his second statement on February 5 that “religious intolerance that arebeing reported in India would have been shocked Mahatma Gandhi” is no doubt an clear statement keeping in mind the increasing mischiefs related to churches in Delhi.

It’s is true and witnessed many a time that whenever our county’s is attacked by outsiders our defense have worked together and sorted it out but it is shameful that we are fighting among each other internally. I think that we should learn something from our defense army.

For becoming a developed country like US we have to work together keeping side the differences. Religious belief is something that is practiced by someone personally and it should be kept to personal limit also. Creating your dominance over other religion or making them to follow your religion forcefully may increase the number but will decrease the respect for sure.
