You Go Girl: Priyanka Chopra, You Weren’t My Favorite, But You Certainly Made Me Your Admirer

I honestly feel that these days Bollywood doesn’t have many faces to receive applause and accolade. But Priyanka Chopra is definitely one of the few good looking actors, who have managed to not only create a space for themselves in this industry, but have proved their mettle abroad as well.

Yesterday, I saw the first episode of Quantico, an American television thriller series. Leading the series in the role of Alex Parrish (an FBI trainee agent accused of being a traitor), Priyanka has paved her way as a debutant in the American television. After rave reviews that Qunatico has received, Priyanka has managed to leave the audiences in her awe in a popular chat show called Jimmy Kimmel Live, aired on a popular American channel.

I was never too fond of Priyanka Chopra, but seeing her grit, determination, hard work and commitment, I certainly have become an admirer. And this is exactly the reason why I could not stop myself from writing few words for her, for I believe that Priyanka is one of those women, who have worked immensely hard to achieve name and fame for themselves without a God Father in the Indian cinema. And she has succeeded to make a mark not just here, but in the Hollywood as well.

Having started her career in 2002 with a Tamil film, Priyanka did encounter many failures. Featured in substandard movies, did not so great roles, this girl walked down a massive road in the past 13 years. She did manage to reclaim her fame from movies like Aitraaz, Andaaz, Don 2, Fashion, Dostana, 7 Khoon Maaf, Barfi, Mary Kom etc. The woman is a proud winner of National Award, many Filmfare and other prestigious awards for her immaculate acting.

Little known fact, which I got to know recently, reveals that Priyanka is the only Indian in the USA so far to have been nominated at the state level for the National Opus Honor Choir, for doing extensive charity work in India. She has been even signed up by Guess, as a top model.

Played well with her voice, Priyanka was one of few Indian actors who released her music albums abroad. From winning beauty pageant to establishing a stand in acting to becoming a singer, now Priyanka has acquired another feather in her cap, by entering the American TV series!! She has set the stage for other talented Indians to be a part of international stage and make us proud.

Despite not having as pretty a face as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (the only well known Indian actress to have worked in Hollywood successfully), Priyanka has managed to be acclaimed as an international style icon. Known very well for her impeccable style of dressing, Priyanka has wooed the audiences with her near perfection fashion and her unblemished grace.

I write such praises for not because Priyanka is my favourite, no she is not. But truly because she has evolved, as an actress, as a human being, fighting for herself, reaching milestones for herself, fighting for right causes, standing up strong despite facing failures and challenges.  She has stood up brave and strong and deserves nothing less than appreciation and support for her determination, courage and hard work which is a great inspiration to one and all. She made us proud in 2000 by winning Ms. World and she continues to make us all proud with her brilliance and radiance!!
