Please don’t get me jailed for this, Azam Khan!

On Monday, a student studying in standard 11 was put behind the bars for sharing an offensive post against the Samajwadi Party leader, Azam Khan. The party leader found the post derogatory and insulting. Just because some teenager shared something which brought down the name of the ‘highly respected’ leader, Azam Khan made sure that he got locked up in the jail.

This uniqueness of our nation just blows my mind away.

When a boy who is 17 years and 6 months old takes part in probably the most brutal rape in the recent history of India, he is just being sent to a rehabilitation center for a couple of years. All the charges against him get dropped and he becomes a free man once again. All set to rape. On the other hand, when a class 11 student shares something against a politician, he is thrown inside the lock up and his parents are forced to beg for mercy. That’s the beauty of our country.

It’s been said and written everywhere that law is equal for everyone and the judiciary system grants no favors to anyone, irrespective of their power and position. Then why is it so often the case that when anything is being said against a man in power by a common man, harsh action is being taken against them. This is not the first time Azam Khan has done something like this. Earlier this month, Azam Khan filed an FIR against a tourism officer of Varanasi for uploading an ‘objectionable picture’ of Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav and himself. In 2013 also Kanwal Bharti, a social activist was being arrested under the same Information and Technology Act, Section 66-A.

The boy who is being arrested studies in a reputed school in Bareilly, and his parents are facing a lot of trouble ever since the arrest has been made. His father gave a statement to the Times of India saying, “Police kept us in the dark. On Monday evening they raided our house and took away our son, saying that he had uploaded some objectionable post on the social networking site against Azam Khan. They also told us that he will be released only after being produced before the minister in Rampur.”

If our political leaders are so uptight about their ‘reputation’, then perhaps they should stop giving statements like, ‘Kargil ki pahadiyon ko fateh karne wale Hindu sainik nahin balki Musalmaan they (Those who fought for victory in Kargil were not Hindu soldiers. In fact, the ones who fought for our victory were Muslim soldiers). And imagine, this man is now accusing a teenager for instigating a Hindu Muslim fight by sharing a post.

From the political leaders, to the judicial system, everything looks so biased, that expecting something good coming out of them has now become hard to digest. There are so many loopholes in our system that they are being bent and used by the mighty people for their unjust advantage. The sad part is, by the time the protests start, the damage already gets done. In a few days, a sick rapist will be out on the streets again and no one will be able to do anything. Even if everyone knows that he deserves a death sentence, it all becomes pointless. And this is what we have to deal with, because it’s just not going to change.

P.S.: Please don’t get me jailed for this, Azam Khan! 😛
