Burn And Kill: The Key To Getting Reservation For Jats. At least They Think So!

Reservation was a tool introduced by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar for promoting social equality and helping the underprivileged. Later it became a tool to get favors in jobs and education. When Bhimrao Ambedkar introduced this, it was based on caste as it has been a major factor to precisely explain the socio-economic status of a person. Now a days reservation is based on the majority of representatives of a caste in the government and of course the “certificates”. Caste and socioeconomic status has nothing to do with it. “Reservation in India is the process of facilitating a person in education, scholarship, jobs, and in promotion who has category certificates.”  – Wikipedia.

Whoever feels that he cannot compete his fellow citizens in exams, competitions and job interviews starts demanding for reservations. There have been many agitations, protests and demands of reservation by different communities which have nothing to do with the impact of these on the life of fellow citizens. And the government instead of solving it for long term believes in temporary suppression of the agitation just likerepairing our tap every time it leaks rather than changing it.

Recently the protestors have emerged from the Jat community of Haryana who constitute 29% of the population of Haryana. The protests are becoming violent day by day, disturbing the lives of another 71% people and the people in surrounding areas.

These protests are an example of when the citizens demand for their rights but forget about their duties and morals. They can destroy the property of their nation, kill their fellow citizens in the name of their rights.

Talking about the fundamental rights, the seven fundamental rights provided by the constitution are right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights, right to property and right to constitutional remedies. And the fundamental duties are the moral obligations of all citizens to help promote a spirit of patriotism and to uphold the unity of India. These duties set in part IV-A of the Constitution, concern individuals and the nation. We remember our rights and fight for them but never think about our duties.

The whole Haryana and surrounding areas are disturbed. 136 trains were diverted, 68 were partially cancelled. Overall, services of 419 Mail or Express trains were hit, officials said. There is curfew in five more Haryana towns — Sonipat, Gohana, Bhiwani, Rohtak and Jhajjar. (The Hindu)

Jats are not only prosperous and socially powerful in Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, but also call the shots in politics and governance in these states (The Hindu). So, it is well known they are not underprivileged. Yet they are demanding for reservation and using their power to make the government obey.

When United Progressive Alliance government’s decided to include the Jat community in the central list of Other Backward Classes (OBC) for the purpose of reservation in jobs and educational institutions, the first signs of unease with the OBC tag came from within the community itself who called this unnecessary (The Hindu). This was done then to buy some votes which has now become a political agenda to blame BJP failure in Haryana. Neither the protestors nor the political parties bother about the lives and properties being destroyed in this fire.

This is something that concerns the whole nation because it is not impossible that a community in your state decides one day to get reservation and sets your house on fire as a part of protest.

Wake up people if you are mute spectator this time, you might be the victim next time.
