A Letter To Mr. Kejriwal – Sir, You Do Have Flaws, But You Are Not Just Another Politician

Dear Mr. Kejriwal,

Almost 4 months back your party was voted to power. The thumping majority you got was in every sense unprecedented and the people of Delhi dispelled the belief of most of the parties that politics is no less than their inherited wealth and therefore they shouldn’t be messed up with. It was the golden opportunity that came our way and we grabbed it with both hands to declare that the ultimate power to make governments lies in the hands of the voters. Coming back to you sir, your triumph was not just yours, it was the victory of every Indian who thought that you are the harbinger of change . After the Lok Sabha debacle people were really apprehensive of voting for the new kid on the block, but resting all their fears they went ahead to vote for you and I must say that in your term so far as the CM of Delhi, you failed us at moments and you have made us proud too.

Sir, recently you broke up with two prominent figures of your party who undoubtedly were the cornerstones of the AAP for a long time and buttressed the foundation of the party. They quite beautifully performed the painstaking job of representing your party at media forum . But then differences are bound to surface when you work as a team and it all depends upon how gracefully and easily you manage to get out of such situations. I shouldn’t hold myself from professing that you miserably failed in this test and ended up separating ways with them. This apparently had a negative impact and forced various sections among your own supporters to doubt the credibility of your party. If this whole episode had taken place before the elections I doubt you would have gotten the same support. Sir, I urge you to redress the imbalance because, to serve the wider purpose, to work for the change, we all need to stand together and being priggish all the time will only lead to disenchantment among the masses who support you.

Lokpal issue has been forgotten. What surprises me is that during the hustling in the run up to 2013 elections, you and your party harped on the Lokpal issue but this time around nobody seems to be talking about it. Since I just made a mention of the Lokpal , I must not refrain from expressing disappointment as you yourself hardly gave importance to the internal Lokpal of your party Admiral Ramdas and moreover you kicked him out of the outfit. Dear Sir, setting high standards is an easy thing to do and how you manage to live up to them is the true test. You failed here too.

Another controversy that surrounded your party recently and hogged enough media attention was the case regarding the fake degree of Jitendra Tomar. I really cannot comment on the whole issue as the probe is still on but apparently it seems that he possessed a fake degree. Sir is there really a dearth of people who are better suited for being the Law Minister?

Everything cannot be mentioned in this letter but there were some moments when the people felt that you were just another politician with vested interests but that’s not really the case I believe. Not every controversy that surrounds your party is because of you and therefore you can in no way be held responsible all the time. Since I cannot let the problems that ailed your party in the last few months overshadow the praiseworthy work you have done, therefore at this point it is of paramount importance to mention that your performance so far has been quite satisfactory.

You are fulfilling the poll promises albeit with some compromises, but it’s good to see that there is a politician who unlike most of them doesn’t believe in being all talk and no trousers. I know it’s not possible to fulfil all of them overnight, it’s a long process and I believe you are working on most of them. One thing that shouldn’t be missed out is the stringent action you have taken to curb corruption which today is immanent in the political system. This has instilled fear in those people who brazenly practised graft for years on end and fear I believe is precursor to elimination, therefore it is a good sign. The tough steps that have been taken seem to have had a knock on effect. What we fail to realise and observe is that it might be easy for rich or middle class people to get their work done by bribing the officials although a wrong practice it may be, but the people with hardly any income end up being pauperized. So corruption is something that should be eradicated completely and anyone caught practising graft should be strongly dealt with to send out a puissant and forceful message.

Another point that strengthens my faith in you and your party is the idea of changing the political discourse from being caste and religion centred to transparency and accountability. Also your party has pushed other mainstream parties to look for young, bold, and honest faces that can probably help them win elections because Indian citizens have had enough of those paunchy politicians who just talk big.

The random checks into hospitals and schools and various government institutions have forced the employees to get to work on time and not leave before the actual dispersal time. This is a really good practice as scrutiny on government employees is of utmost importance.

Few days back, in an interview to a prominent news channel you made a mention of your plan to add 10,000 buses to our already existing feeble lot. This will have far reaching consequences as the problem of long lasting traffic jams is really a pain in the ass. People think that having more cars will enhance their stature and this will help them in becoming civilized people of a developed society. We should understand that a developed country is the one in which everyone i.e. from rich to poor uses public transport. Therefore the notion of introducing new buses is really appreciable.

The initiative your government recently took to award jobs to the acid attack survivors is a really noble thing to do. Acid attack victims for long have remained marginalised as no really cared about them but the step to offer them jobs on the basis of their qualification has really earned you popularity. Cynics may still find some flaw out of it but this is what is required of a Chief Minister, to care for his own people rather than sit complacently in an air conditioned room and enjoy the perks of being the CM as most of them do.

Dear sir, its palpable that rival parties in the state are really scared of your modus operandi and your increasing popularity is really not going down well with them and no matter how hard you work, in the end they will term your performance “damp squib”. You are actually like an albatross around their neck as you are possible danger to the interests for which they actually stepped into politics. They will do every bit to stain the lustre your government is gaining every day. Don’t let your resolution get affected in any way. If your conscience is clear you will definitely shine in the political firmament and we will eventually see the change we are striving for. Carry on with the good work sir, five years is a long duration to prove oneself and as the old dictum from Bhagvad Gita says “Do your duty to the best of your ability, abandon worry and selfish attachments to the result.”
